Merrill & Beryl Jacobson

Jay and Beryl Jacobson established their endowed scholarship for the Skilled Trades Programs at Trinidad State. Scholarship preference is given to students in the Nursing, Construction Trades and Line Technician Programs.

“TSJC can give its students employable skills,” Jay explained. “In business, we are short of labor—a lot of good people are not working and need work, but they don’t have the necessary skills to grab the good salaries available. That’s what starts my engine about the community college—you can train people and do it in a cost-effective manner. I feel that our scholarship is one small way I can encourage students to get employable skills—and that’s what TSJC can do.”

Impact

Scholarship Recipient, Kayla Wheeler, shares her gratitude and the impact the Jacobson Scholarship has had on student experience. I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Merrill & Beryl Jacobson scholarship. Thank you for your generous support for my nursing career. I am the first in my family to attend college, and I am enormously proud that I can do so! Coming from a low-income family has always been rough, but with such generous support, I am able to focus on my goal and attend college. I am in my second semester of Nursing school. Nursing school is more than a passion for me. I love helping people. I enjoy it more than anything. After graduation, I plan to work as an RN in mental health while working on getting my BSN. I believe many people who suffer with bad mental health are sometimes overlooked. I would love to be part of that change. I genuinely appreciate your investment in me. It means more to me than you will ever know. Thank you again.
